Celebrating eight years of being Cancer free!

February 29, 2004:

Matt and Joan eloped in Lake Tahoe on Leap Day. We hoped to have a wedding and celebration, July 10, at the house with friends and family, but plans have changed.

April 16 - I went in for an annual Pap smear at Valleycare Womens Medical Group, in Pleasantan, Calif. (more info than you wanted?) The doctor felt a lump and suggested I get an ultrasound.

April 19 - I went in for a ultra sound. (Only had this done when I was pregnant. That was a good check up back then!)
Prep: Drink 2 liters of water and hold it for 45 minutes. They take some sound wave images, then they let you go to the bathroom because you are complaining so much, afterwhich they proceed to stick the magic camera wand (Transvaginal probe) up you for more images.

April 26 - I got a call from Dr. Phillips stating Ultra sound results - I have 2 tumor growths located on the ovaries. The right one is 9" x 9" mass. The left is 9" x 6" x 7".

The doctor ordered a Cancer Antigen 125 (CA-125) blood work to rule out Cancer. I went in to give the vial of blood. I have been bleeding since Feb 10 non-stop and am very tired.

April 29 - Went to Valleycare Womens Medical Group for the CA-125 results - 191.0. (normal is between 0.00-30.0) Dr. Phillips said the Cancer numbers are high and they are indicating Ovarian Cancer. He said we would be looking at surgery as soon as possible. Ah ya, he thinks the tumors sizes are wrong, he said they should be about these sizes :) - the right one is 9cm x 9cm mass and the left one is 9cm x 6cm x7cm. They are both a water sustenance. He then gave us a referral to go see an oncologist. (You know, women know the difference between an inch and a centimeter! I am confused . . the test says one thing, you think it's another? Are you flippin kidding me?)

Surgery Month :

May 4 - Matt and Joan went to go see Dr. Catherine Casey, M.D. She is a Gynecologic Oncology Specialist at the Women's Cancer Center at San Ramon. She asked about my life and wanted to know if there was ANY family history with cancer. (Did you know that Breast Cancer and Ovarian Cancer are related??) (fortunately, Joan's brother Allan Lonzo is a genealogy nut and knew all the cancer history in the Lonzo/Tower family line and it proved to be very important - Thanks Al!)

The doctor performed another exam, took a biopsy, more blood and tissue samples. Then she put her entire hand up there and felt EVERYTHING she possible could (thank God she has small hands and NO- Matt didn't get to watch! :)

Afterwards we went to her office and we waited to hear her findings. The doctor feels (no pun intended) the masses are on top of each other causing a great deal of pressure. The only way to remove the tumors will be to have a total hysterectomy abdominal. She will then do the cancer screening tests, saline swish test to check for cancer cells in the cavity, sample the Lymph Nodes and what ever this woman wants to do. I elected to have the surgery and to have exploratory surgery - I said go for it and check it all! (We know going all the way for exploratory could be a critical gamble, but after watching and losing my son to cancer I know now this is what I need to do to stay alive.) The doctor is remaining optimistic. We will not know anymore about any cancer findings until the surgery itself or when we receive the test results. Although the numbers are med-high, we are proceeding in an very aggressive manner. The doctor has not ruled out Endometriosis. Although, it is rare you would have a tumor on each ovary with the CA-125 numbers high. So Ovarian Cancer is still the main though pattern here.

I asked for a tummy tuck at the time of surgery but the doctor will NOT be able to do that because the incession is going to be done in a different direction. (I mean, hell while you got me under at least do me a favor and make me look good! hee hee). . . I have to remember that capturing the cancer is the biggest concern now.

Waiting For:

  • Results from the tests taken 05/04/04.
  • Honeymoon :) was going to be at the Strawberry Lodge for 8 days now it's going to be relaxing on a lounge chair in the backyard for 8-12 weeks.

Problems ahead:

  • No rock climbing during recoup time.
  • No, you know - hard thing for newlyweds.
  • No coffee for Joan
  • Insurance coverage 80% of what the insurance company thinks they should pay, after that we are hosed for the rest.
  • Approx cost is $75,000. to get sliced and diced and a 5-7 day stay in San Ramon Regional Medical Center. (Hope, I get a bed with a view! The price keeps changing, if it's anything like a remodel we should just triple the estimate and that would be about right.)

Looking For:

May 11 - Pre-Op testing - Included a CBC, Baseline = 3 vials of blood and a chest X-Ray. Now that that am looking at the prep for the day before that sounds like more fun.

May 17 - Thanks to EVERYONE for all their LOVE, SUPPORT, GOOD WISHES and PRAYERS! I look forward to chatting with you when I get out of the hospital. Love to you all! ~ Joan

Surgery Date - May 18 at 8:30 A.M.

San Ramon Regional Medical Center
6001 Norris Canyon Rd; San Ramon, CA 94583

Surgery Procedures:

  1. Exploratory laparotomy washings
  2. Total abdominal hysterectomy
  3. Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy
  4. Bilateral pelvic and periaortic lymph node deissection
  5. Appendectomy
  6. Omentectomy
  7. Burch retropublic urethropexy
  8. Cystoscopy
  9. Suprapubic tube placement

The surgury started out as planned with a total hysterectomy. Once the cavity was opened they saw a tumor has taken over the right ovary and prepared to capture it. Now the right ovary/tumor was 4.7" W x 8.5"L. 20% of that was cancerous AND 20% of that was all ready flaking and creating cancer spread in the body! The left ovary was a 4.5"W x 4"L cyst, borderline malignent and removed.

After the hysterectomy was done they (Dr. Casey and supporting surgical team) continued on with the exploratory surgery. The cancer spread was on the left pelvic lymph node AND just landed on the right lymph node. Samplings were taken and dessection of the lymph nodes were preformed. Moving on up they found cancer spread near the Appendix and an Apppendectomy and Omentectomy was preformed. The surgeons continue and checked every nook and crany up to the heart. 26 other lymph nodes were tested and biopsy's of EVERYTHING was taken.

They stitch and stabled me up (68 staples) and I got sent to recovery. This ended up being a 4 hour surgery.

All I remember was waking up to hear the words of "No chemotheraphy was needed"

The labs results came in 2 days later and they all the samplings came back clean. The cancer spread did NOT go down the lymph nodes and all the other biopsy's that were taken were not infected with cancer spread!

In the hospital for 6 nights/7 days. They say recovery time is 12 weeks!

May 23- Came home. Matt gave me a couple of presents, a walker, you know the one with the green tennis balls on the bottom :) and a chair for the shower. I love them both!

May 27- Doctor's appointment with Dr. Catherine Casey. Big Day got my staples and catheter out :) Received the surgical report and confirmed lab results. The surgeons feel everything was captured and I am one LUCKY LADY!

June 1, 2004- Finally back on line! Just want to THANK EVERYONE for EVERYTHING! Tell Everybody, I'm on my way . .. I look forward to seeing you all real soon! ~ Joan

REPORT came back- this was STAGE 1 OVARIAN CANCER

ca 125 can save your life - it did mine! Sorry for losing the last year of notes . . :) I didn't realize this webpage was going to be of interest to anyone. This has been my way of journaling and keeping track of everything since going through some thing like this is CRAZY with ALL the doctors, missing paperwork, doctors injecting there thoughts and NOT noting them down, it all gets confusing. So, if I can give you with any words of wisdom - TAKE NOTES, it's your life and take control! I'll recap the notes since people have written to me requesting "the rest of the story" ~ thanks for your support!
The missing notes included the healing process from the hysterectomy and about menopause . Heal time really took 5 months not 12 weeks, the hot flashes were HELL and still have them. I can't take estrogen because a side effect is CANCER! I am trying various natural herbs, supplements, gels etc = ALL CRAP!! I am currently searching for something to control the hot flashes, in the mean time my husband gets to enjoy my tossing and turning at night, the covers flying on and off the bed and everything else that goes with it. So, there is good and bad right? The good news is I MADE IT!!! The bad news I came out damaged in a way that I need to learn how to deal with - mentally and physically. Things I miss most of all is spooning with the ones I love . .. you know being in the middle with my wonderful husband and my chow chow.

2005

July 9, 2005 - Dr. Catherine Casey is closing her pratice and moving back to her hometown. She will be working with a MOHPA Minnesota Oncology Hematolgy, PA. Her speciality is Gynecologic Oncology/Surgery. It looks like I have a long way to go for check ups. This woman saved my life and I can't think of going to anyone else. Frequent flyer miles here I come!

August, 2005 - Dr. Freehling discoverd a nodule on my Thyroid. I went in for blood work and the results came back clean. I am having an ultra-sound done Oct 13.

October, 2005 - Saw Dr. Freehling for an ear cleaning :) and to discuss the ultra-sound results more. She is recommending that I see Dr. Soo Eng in Mountain View to get a biospy taken of the 2 nodules in my thyroid area. This appointment is November 18 and hopefully she can do the biospy then :) More on this one later.

Went to Dr. Ong (Great doctor!!!!) Guess what??? The nodules reabsorbed! Meaning they disolved and are no longer there! YIPPIEE!!!!
CA-125 test results - NORMAL :)

November, 2005 - Went to a new Cancer doctor, Dr. Oliveira in Pleasanton, on Novemeber 17. Oh my gosh - can I just say that she is the BOMB! LOVE HER!! She is an aggressive doctor on finding out everything she can to help you with your health! So with that said, I am going in for another CA-125 test, CT Scan and everyones favorite - Colonoscopy - hee hee . . actually, I will be relieved ( no jab intended ) knowing that I am ok. Thank you Dr. Oliveira!

2006

January 02, 2006 - I went in for the CT Scan at Pleasanton Valley Care. I had to drink the constrast (fruity flavor chalk - yummy ;) the night before and the morning before the test. Before the scan started they gave me an IV with this metallic dye (weird feeling - warm) and checked out all the abdomen area. Well, on 9th I got the call from Dr. Oliveira's office that the results came out abnormal. It showed a large size cyst where the right ovary use to be. The want me to get in for a pelvic and pelvic transvaginal ultrsound this week.

January 20, 2006- I am scheduling the biopsy to be taken of my cyst after I get all my blood work done. Get this - they want to do a guided aspiration while I am under the CT Scan - CRAZY uh? This will done at Livermore Valley Care. I have also scheduled the FUN colonoscopy for 02/07 to be preformed at Livermore Valley Care, by Dr. Wolfe.
From the Ultrasound as of today 01-14-06. The cyst that was found isn't as large like they thought from the CT scan. The CT scan showed the scar tissue from where my large tumor was removed from my ovarian bout. This cyst is smaller and encapsulated! It is thought at this moment that it is a Lynoseal cyst. Keep that white light shining!

January 25, 2006 - CT scan guided aspiration (biospy) Dr. Locas preformed the biopsy at Pleasanton Valley Medical. Plan was to get fluid from the cyst and tissue samples, but while doing that they discovered a solid mass (tumor) behind the cyst so 10 plugs were taken from take to send to the lab as well. I didn't get the feeling that that was what they were exepting;)

February 02, 2006 - Got the call from the receptionist at Valley Women's Health - the cyst (fluid) - non-cancerous, infected and a probably lynoseal - we'll watch it. The tumor(mass) was fatty tissue :) All is well at the Schafle household once again!

February 07, 2006 - Oh Joy - A colonoscopy! This was pretty much uneventful. The prep was a bitch and the procedure was fine. Dr. Wolfe was gentle;)

February 15, 2006 - Colonoscopy results came back clean, I'm good to go for 4 years!

March 03, 2006 - CA-125 blood work result - normal - 4.8.

May 25, 2006 - CA-125 blood work result came back normal - 6.7. I think I'm on a roll here!

July 12, 2006 - Check up with Dr. Oliveira went great. She said everything felt fine.

July 18, 2006 - Went to a NEW Internal medicine doctor in Livermore, Dr. Micheal Alper. LOVE HIM! After we reviewed all my medical history he suggested I get a Bone Density test. He also refilled my mediciation of Advair 100/50 and Alupent.

July 27, 2006 - Bone Density test.

August 02, 2006 - Dr. Micheal Alper reviewed the bone density scan with me. He let me know since I have had a total hysterectomy and I am hormone free, (not a good thing unless your a chicken), I have early signs of Osteopenia (early symptoms of Osteoporosis) so I need to take 2000iu of Calcium daily and BONIVA once a month. We will retest in a year.

September 02, 2006 - CA-125 blood work results - 6.8

October 09, 2006 - Check up went great!

October 12, 2006 - Check up with Dr. Jupina, my Tri-Valley Orthopedic Specialist. Ok, ok, ok, I went rock climbing and screwed up my rotor cuff. I am going in for shoulder arthroscopy in November. Dr. Jupina took care of my husband with his arthroscopy knee surgery. (no need to write me emails, I can't help it I love the darn sport!)

Nov, 3, 2006 - Dr. Jupina preformed my arthroscopy shoulder surgery and took care of the SLAP repair . Pretty interesting really, since the muscle had been torn from the bone he needed to reattach it my placing in a anchor bolt (for the lack of terms) and stitched up the muscle and reattach it. After doing that, he took a good look at the top view of the rotator cuff and notice I had bone spurs that were ripping my torn muscle :0 so he pulled out his drummer tools (once again, I don't know what they are called in the medical world) and grined them down. All in all - 12 week heal time. He recommended Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation.

November 17, 2006 - I started Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation with Angleica at Livermore Physical Therapy - WOW, she is the BEST Physical Therapist I have ever been to.

December 20, 2006 - CA-125 blood work results - 5.0.

2007

Jan 05, 2007 - Dr. Greenberg, re-check for my skin melonoma - everything looks great!

Jan 09, 2007 - I went in for my routine check up with Dr. Olivera. Everything felt fine. I discovered my insurance is NOT going to cover check up appointments every 3- months for me anymore. They would like me to be on a yearly plan. So, Difenitly Health - YOU SUCK! I made another appointment for June, cause this is my life and I need to take control. It maybe an out of pocket expense, we'll see. Dr. Oliveira has prescribe some Estrogel for me to help with the hot flashes. Yes it has side effects, but somehow I need to balance out the "quality of my life."

January 17, 2007 - Recheck about my rotar cuff with Dr. Jupina in his Livermore office. Everything at this point is pretty much feeling ok. I seem to have good rotation and movement with the 12 weeks of physical therapy - so rock climbing here I come.

May 20, 2007 - CA-125 blood work results - 5.6.

June 11, 2007 - Dr. Olivera check up, paps and ALL that fun stuff ;) Results came back normal. Doctor ordered a MRI this year to check instead of a CT scan.... not sure why really. They said it was so I didn't have so exposure to radiation. Anyway, I get that done next month.

June 18, 2007 - Dr Creston at the California Ear Institute. Well, I need to switch ear doctors since going to Mt. View was a long drive. I am now going to Dr. Creston, nice guy, asked a lot of questions :) that's a good thing if you ask me. Well, I of course have a small tear in the right ear drum causing havic and the canal is so small it fills up with wax instead of draining it . . hee hee. anyway, I highly reccommend him.

June 19, 2007 - Dr. Micheal Alper check up. I went in because I have this bump growing on my right hand (or something that I just noticed;) he felt it and thinks it is a deformed bone and since I have been working a lot . . . it could be arrgovated with my mousing and computer work . .. (hum, I'll be watching this and getting a second opinion;)

July 09, 2007 - Mammogram. Well, big report ladies, Livermore Valley Care has gotten a new Mammogram machine and your boobs don't have to be fatten like a pancake - I knew it didn't have to hurt and besides they are nice people!!!! Schedule your next app there! Results came back - normal.

July 22, 2007 - MRI in Pleasanton. Wow, that is a long event when getting an MRI with and without constrast. The sounds during the exam can really get annoying, request that they play music or bring your own CD to reamin relaxed:) I heard people complain about being confined in the tube but that was no big deal >>> it's the noise man, the noise!
RESULTS - came back with a finding of an small cyst on the right kidney . . second opinion came back and they think it is a typical cyst that would be found on a "woman your age" - (ouch, way to go on giving me a back handed slap ;)

August 07, 2007 - Bone Density in Livermore. This test was a check up to see if my bone mass is still deteriating since my hystererectomy. The results came back "good" and the deterioration has stoped since I have been taking my vitimins and Boniva monthly! YIPPIE .

September 10, 2007- Dr Creston at the California Ear Institute has retired - I called The California Ear Institute to make an appointment and they will NOT let me see a doctor. They are only scheduling appointments with the nurse practitioner . . . does that sound right to you??? So our entire family QUIT going to the California Ear Institute because they are not taking care of their patients!

September 11, 2007- Dr. Greenberg, re-check for my skin melonoma - everything looks great! Oh remember that deformed bone thing on my right wrist??? I looked at my daughter's hand and she has it too . . I guess that is a family thing - hee hee - BREATHE!

November 20, 2007- I found another doctor in pleasantan to clean my ears. Dr. Stone. He is a no BS kind of guy, I think he's great!

November 25, 2007 - CA-125 blood work results - 7.1

2008

June 24, 2008 - CA-125 blood work results - 7.7

July 2008 - Mammogram, results normal, Bi-yearly check up with Dr. Oliveira, things seem to be on track except for the lump on my pelvic area in the same area as the original cancer tumor on the right side. I scheduled an Ultra-sound appointment for further testing. Results from ultrasound came back and my doctor believes that I need to get the lump/cyst removed asap. I have schedule an appointment with Albert Pisani, M.D. to find out the 411 - when, what, where and what the surgery is going to entail. The estimated size at this moment is 4" long and the size of a half dollar. More later...

Aug 06, 2008 - Matt and I went to Dr. Pisani offices for testing, biopsies and consult about surgery. First off, this doctor is AWESOME - Love him. He has worked with Dr. Oliveira (my OBGYN) and Dr. Casey (my angel doc that perform my exploratory surgery during the ovarian bout). Anyway, we talked about my family history and my personal cancer history from melanoma on up . . . . He preformed the exam (Matt watched!!!) Dr. Pisani took several aspirations of fluid to test for cancer etc... He used a long a*** needle and inserted into the masses 9 times but he said he was sorry each time - hee hee nice guy! (I will know those results in 10 days - 2 weeks) The doc didn't think the cysts (yes now two) felt like cancer (good thing!!!) So he put me on antibodics just incase it is an infected lynoseal. Anyway - I think I am getting lucky (finaly) I'll keep you posted when I know more - Thanks for all the warm wishs - - - love ya!

Aug 20, 2008 - Just found out that the biospies that were taken came back benign! HAPPY DANCE going on here. So now the story is what to do wth the cysts. Well since the one on the right pelvic area is causing problems in my activity level (yes, rock climbing) - I am thinking - take it out! I am going back in to see the doctor to discuss options . . . more later.

Sept 10, 2008 - Well here it is in a nut shell. The back cyst has disapated (Oh joy) The front one has not, although I am not in any more pain. The size is still a little larger than I would like but what the heck it's benign so let's be happy here! The doctor does NOT want to remove it since it is on and/or near my 5 remaining lymphnodes. If we have it removed it can cause more problems than it is worth. So, I am off enjoying the remaining climbing season . .. more later - CLIMB ON!

October routine check ups: Oct 14 Dr. Greenberg, skin - good; Kitty Hawk Dental, cleaning - good; Oct 15 Dr. Stone, got my ears cleaned - all clear now.

October 27, 2008 - Back to Dr. Pisani, the cyst is really acting up again. It's fine when I do NOTHING, but when I get activite it really swells up!!! When that happens it swells all the up to the back of my hip. (No, it isn't shooting pain - it's a dull pain. Massage helps - weird!) So he ordered 2 MRI's. One for the hip and one for the pelvic. He wants to make sure we haven't missed anything. (See I like that!)

October 29, 2008 2 MRI's at Pleasanton Valley Care. No abnormal marrow signal within hips or sacroiliac joints. Probably trace marrow edema within the pubic bones with mild narrowing of the symphysis pubis and hypertrophic change. No significant findings - YIPPIE

December 12, 2008 - CA-125 Test results - 7.6
BTW: Dr. Pisani called me just to see how I was doing - Gosh he is amazing!

2009

January 08, 2009 - Routine cancer screening with Dr. Oliveira - all is well.

February 17, 2009 - Routine appoinment with Dr. Stone - all is well.

March 05, 2009 - Twisted my ankle ~ appoinment with Dr. Alper - I had X-Rays and they came back fine. It was just stupid. I was sitting on my foot while at the computer for about 15 minutes, my foot fell asleep again, so when I got up to walk my foot rolled . . . OMG The pain . . I was on the floor crying like a baby . .

April 21, 2009 - Routine appoinment with Dr. Greenberg - all is well.

May 2009 -Problems with the right leg and lymphnodes is becoming more and more painful because of the swelling. My right leg is tingly and my foot is falling asleep all the time. In March, when I was walking I twisted (rolled) my ankle inwards (pain in the butt but it never healed up! and no it's not because of rock climbing) and I am not to pleasant at the moment ~ but still striving to be kinder - (talk to me after my coffee).

May 06, 2009 - Re-check appointment with Dr. Pisani. Over all, thtingling, swelling lymphnode thing is not a life threatening issue - I started Lymphatic Drainage treatments ;)
Since my last exploratory surgery (2004) during my Ovarian cancer bout, I had 26 lymph nodes removed. In the area of my right pelvis I had 6 out of the 9 lymph nodes removed, so they are over worked and clogging causing circulation and other problems. One in particular is swollen up to the size of an Oscar Meyer hot dog and painful. I am envisioning treatments maybe a life long journey :)

I started Lymphatic Drainage treatments at the Holistic Bodywork Therapy For Women offered by Tracy. She is amazing. I can tell you she has GREAT energy, warm touch and very caring. I will be seeing her 2x a week for treatment. I'll keep you posted how things progress.

Progress Report: Hey y'all cancer survivors that need Lymphatic Drainage treatments - contact TRACY at Holisitic Bodywork in Livermore - she is amazing!!!!! I am starting to get some feeling in my leg . . . and when she worked on my right ankle - it felt great! Thank goodness I go 2 x a week! I know I am in good hands with Tracy, she has healing hands!

OK, Thank you everyone for sending me your suggestions on what I should do or try. Here are some of the ideas: warm compresses, have Matt massage me everyday (yea - I wish), use the Inversion Table (bat hang) and have the gravity help the circulation; yoga on my wii fit, use a long handle brush on a stick and comb my leg every morning to help the circulation (don't laugh this feels good!) or try the Lymphedema Sleeves/Garments (which requirements doctors RX - don't have that). So with that said: I actually in the process of trying most of these ideas.

The size of the lymphnode is down from hot dog to breaksfast sauage . Still sore . . . but it's going in the right direction.

May 12, 2009 - CA-125 blood work - normal range 10.8 - little high for me . .. so of course I am concerned.

May 21, 2009 - So I went to see my dermotolgogist cause I got this crazy rash about 5 days ago and this thing won't go away. So I am begging for a Benadryl injection (cause they work) and he wanted to see the rash first. Well, he takes one look at it and tells me I got Pityriasis Rosea and it can last from several weeks to several months but for my age group it can last several months!!! Well, he had my attention - oh crap you got to be kidding. Guess what?? Looks like we are completely screwed for climbing season right now! {I am still striving to be kind, but come on!} ~ ok ~ family, not contagious, don't know how I got it. More later after I settle down. I've emailed my wonderful massage therapist to see if she feels comfortable working on me . . . hopes so - cause I am noticing BIG IMPROVEMENT with the Lymphatic Drainage treatments. But SAFETY FIRST - no sense spreading the wealth so to speak. Well, my fabulous massage therapist Tracy said she would work on me after seeing me. YIPPIE!!

Updates: Rash has been re checked by Dr. Greenberg on May 29 and that is subsiding nicely! OH YEAH!, Check up with Dr. Oliveira went great other than getting the mammogram slip ;) Lymphatic Drainage treatments by Tracy - are STILL AMAZING and highly recommended!! And I am on my way to having a great summer! (Gained 5 pounds ~ ugh . . . oh crap - Giora is going to go crazy over that one! The fact I have to fess up is horrible. I've been so damn good! Going back to Jenny when we get back from vacation!) Amazing how things twist and turn . . . still striving to inspire ;)

June 16, 2009: I got my ear wax cleaned out by Dr. Stone. So I am off tonight for our 2 week vacation in Tulum, MX. See ya!

July 28: Mammogram - came back normal

August 2009: CA-125 test on August 12. It was 3.6; the lowest ever!! Problems with the right leg and lymphnodes AGAIN. The swelling is really becoming unbearable - urgh!!!!

November 2009: Started Lympathetic drainage massage treatments again with Tracy - yippie!!

December 2009: Check up with Dr. Oliveira on december 11. She mentioned that I should see Dr. Dang about the swelling. On the 18, I saw Dr. Dang . During the visit he felt that this wasn't cancerous and it maybe an inflamed lymph and/or fatty tissue or inflamed nerve, but non the less we are going to get a biopsy to learn more.
